Artism Gallery

Artism Gallery is a new, independent space dedicated to powerful, story-driven contemporary art. With a special — though not exclusive — focus on artists with a migration background, the gallery aims to create a space where diverse voices, life stories, and cultural perspectives come together through visual expression.

We start our journey with the works of Kourosh Dolatshahi.

Kourosh Dolatshahi

Born in Iran in 1955, Kourosh began his artistic journey at the age of 19, initially working with oil painting before expanding into sculpture, pottery, metalwork, and relief painting on aluminum (Feleznegari). Deeply inspired by the rich visual culture of Qajar art, his early work combined classical Persian influences with a bold, personal language.

In Iran, he built a successful artistic career, managing his own galleries and securing commissions from both official institutions and private collectors. However, his artistic vision did not align with government expectations, and over time, increasing political pressure and censorship made it impossible for him to continue his work freely. Firm in his belief in artistic independence, Kourosh made the difficult decision to leave his country and start over in Belgium.

In Belgium, he continued to reinvent and expand his practice, adding new mediums such as illuminated mirrors (Ayneh Noori) and refining his sculptural techniques. His work has since been featured in numerous exhibitions across Europe, including in Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, and London.

A multidisciplinary and deeply reflective artist, Kourosh Dolatshahi creates from a place of lived experience — migration, resilience, identity, and beauty. His work is not only a form of personal expression but a quiet act of resistance and preservation. His memoir-style publication, Narration of Love, brings together a curated selection of artworks and reflections from his artistic and personal journey.
